Mother’s Day for Bereaved Mothers: Finding Strength in Remembrance

Mother’s Day is often a time of celebration, filled with flowers, cards, and precious moments. But for mothers like Arlo’s mum, whose arms ache with emptiness, this day carries a different weight. It becomes a day of quiet reflection, where love and grief intertwine — honouring a bond that transcends time. Our Funeral Director, Sam, arranged the service for little Arlo. Here is her perspective.

“On the 6th of October 2023, the Ambrose family welcomed their beautiful boy, Baby Arlo to the world. Born at 7.18am and weighing 8.8lbs. This should have been a joyous occasion, but sadly, following an emergency C Section, Little Arlo was whisked away due to complications. Mum and Dad were left not knowing what was happening and fearing the worst.

At just two days old, Arlo sadly passed away whilst in the loving arms of his Mum and Dad at the hospital on 8th October 2023.

I met this most amazing family two days after Arlo passed and feel incredibly privileged to have been part of their journey. From the start, we had a connection, and you could feel the love for this beautiful little boy. Arlo came into our care that day, and together, amidst the sadness we found comfort in creating meaningful moments to honour Arlo.

Together we were able to experience some very special moments as Arlo rested in the Chapel of Rest. We took footprints, changed his clothes and even enabled his big sister to come and spend time in the chapel and see the coffin, in preparation for the funeral service.

The Ambrose family showed the utmost dignity throughout this unimaginably sad time, and we built a long-lasting bond.

It was a great honour to be asked to attend a remembrance service for Arlo on what would have been his first birthday. The Ambrose family planted a tree in Arlo’s name and held a Butterfly release to commemorate his birthday.

It was a beautiful and emotional day, but what was most striking was the love not only for the Ambrose family but also for little Arlo, and how whilst he was only here for such a short time, he will live on in everyone’s hearts and memories forever.”

For those who have lost a child, Mother’s Day is a reminder that though their little one is no longer physically present, they are forever carried in their hearts. Arlo’s mum embodies that enduring love, holding him close in memory, where he remains her beautiful boy, always.
