How do pre-paid funeral plans work?A pre-paid funeral plan allows you to arrange and pay for your funeral in advance, protecting your family from unexpected costs and difficult decisions when the time comes. By locking in today’s prices and setting out your personal wishes, you can ensure that everything is handled the way you want, while easing the financial and emotional burden on those you care about most later down the line.
Whether you want a simple service, a cremation, or something more personalised, pre-paid funeral plans give you both control and reassurance that everything will be taken care of.
At Heart of England, we know that every person has different needs and priorities when purchasing a pre-paid funeral plan, which is why they offer a variety of options so you can find something that suits you and your family. All of our plans cover the funeral director’s charges as well as third-party charges as specified within them. They also include transportation and care for the deceased. Beyond these essentials, each of our plans builds a different type of funeral, and you can choose the one that’s right for you. You can also head over to our funeral plans comparison page for a full look into what each plan can offer you and your family.

We understand our set plans may not meet everyone’s needs. That’s why we offer Bespoke Funeral Plans, allowing you to build an arrangement that is uniquely yours.
If you’d like to learn more about what’s included in our funeral plans, you can learn more on our plan provider Ecclesiastical Planning Services website. Alternatively, explore our bespoke funerals page to discover how you can create your own custom plan.
Are pre-paid funeral plans a good idea?Pre-paid funeral plans not only ensure your wishes are carried out, but also lock in the cost at today’s prices, protecting your loved ones from future inflation.
Our plans also allow your loved ones to arrange and pay for additional requests when the time comes, giving your family full flexibility to tailor the service should anything change, with the essentials already covered.
Prices differ from provider to provider, but at Heart of England, our pre-paid funeral plans start from £1,695 for our Direct Unattended Funeral plan, while Attended Funeral plans start at £3,875. These prices are even lower for Co-operative members, who can make the most of our exclusive member discount on funeral plans.
For just £1, you can become a member of Heart of England Co-operative Society, and our membership scheme offers you the opportunity to benefit from a discount on our pre-paid funeral plans*. To become a member, just join online at any time on the Heart of England Cooperative Membership website, and benefit from the following discounts on our plans.
Direct Plan – £1,670 (includes £25 member’s discount)
Essential Plan – £3,750 (includes £125 member’s discount)
Traditional Plan – £4,090 (includes £200 member’s discount)
Bespoke Plan – £POA (up to £200 member’s discount)
Whether you’re a member or not, you can also benefit from having all third-party costs covered within our plans, unlike some providers who only guarantee the funeral director’s fees. Once we’ve agreed on a complete fee with you, that’s the amount you’ll pay for the options you have selected, as long as we carry out your funeral and your requirements don’t change.
The complete fee we agree upon with you is the fixed price you pay for your chosen options, provided we conduct the funeral and your requirements remain unchanged.
Your plan locks in the price of third-party fees such as transport or flowers. Should those costs rise for any reason, you pay nothing further.
We guarantee that the agreed-upon fee represents the complete and final price, not a ‘contribution towards’ your plan.
Your pre-payment amount is held in a specifically-designed ‘whole of life’ policy with Royal London Mutual, which is a large mutual insurer in the UK.
Funeral funds can only be accessed by us upon your death in order to provide for the funeral, or if the plan is cancelled.
We’ll deliver your chosen plan regardless of future price increases, guaranteed.
So that you know exactly what your money will be spent on, here is a breakdown of the costs of our funeral plans for full transparency.
| The costs | The direct funeral plan | The essential funeral plan | The traditional funeral plan |
| Funeral Directors costs | £560 | £2,150 | £2,565 |
