Meet Kim: Our Daventry Funeral Director

We were delighted to appoint Kim Mullaney as our first dedicated Funeral Director for Daventry. We pride ourselves on the personal attention we give every family that walks through the door and we like the family to feel that they know us before the day of the service. Therefore, we are thrilled to create this new role.

Kim has already been a valuable member of the team for many years, joining us as a Funeral Arranger in 2010. Since then, she has worked with Mags, also a Funeral Arranger, to support families deciding the details of the funeral and make the necessary arrangements.

Kim now provides that continuity of service all the way through, from meeting the family when they come in to make the necessary arrangements, all the way through to the end of the service and any elements of aftercare that are required following on from the funeral, be that the collection of the ashes, memorial jewellery, or a headstone through to pre-paid funeral plans.

We asked Kim a little bit about herself, so that we can introduce you properly.

So what exactly is the role of the Funeral Director?

A Funeral Director is there to look after as much or as little as the client family wants us to. We are here to help and guide with the numerous decisions and choices that are required in making a funeral arrangement, offering advice and options along the way. We reassure the family every step of the way, this continues right up until we say goodbye to the family, either at the end of the service or at the wake.

What made you decide to work with Funeralcare?

“I was looking to return to work as my children were growing up. I had worked in an office previously but I wanted to do something that I felt was worthwhile, that mattered to people. I saw the job advertised and felt I could make a real difference. I haven’t looked back since”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

It’s such a privileged and rewarding role. Families are really entrusting you with their loved ones; you are carrying out the very last thing they can do for them and that is incredibly important. To be able to help and provide comfort to those people at a very difficult time, and to take some of the burden from them, makes all the difference.

What else do you enjoy?

I’m a home bird really, so I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I’ve lived in Daventry for nearly 20 years and that community is very special to me. I volunteer in the New Street Day Centre café every month, its run by volunteers and promotes wellbeing for older people in the community. I thoroughly enjoy my time there, listening to the stories people have to tell.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

Being able to provide that continuity of care I think. As a funeral arranger, we see to every detail from the coffin, to the flowers, order of service and music. We get to know the family very well and enjoy finding out the personal details of the deceased so that we can each funeral as unique as the person who has passed away, making it special for the family and friends. Now I get to see those personal requests and instructions that right the way through on to the day of the funeral.
